Frequently asked questions
Do these QR codes expire?
No. They are static: the link or text is encoded directly into the pattern of squares. There is no redirect in the middle and no account behind it, so there is nothing that can be switched off later.
What is the difference between a static and a dynamic QR code?
A static code contains your data itself. A dynamic code contains a short link owned by a provider, which forwards to your real destination. Dynamic codes can be edited after printing, but they stop working if the provider shuts down or ends your plan. This generator makes static codes only.
Is it really free?
Yes. No account, no trial, no watermark and no limit on how many codes you make. You can use them commercially, including in print.
Can you see what I encode?
No. The code is generated by JavaScript in your browser, so the text you type never leaves your device. The site counts anonymous page views with Plausible, a cookieless analytics tool: it records that a visit happened, never what you encoded.
Should I download the PNG or the SVG?
PNG for screens, SVG for print. The SVG is vector, so it stays sharp at any size.
How small can I print a QR code?
Keep it at least a tenth of the scanning distance — roughly 2–3 cm for something read at arm's length. Leave the pale margin around the pattern intact, because scanners need that quiet zone to find the code.
Does it work offline?
Mostly. The generator and its QR encoder are inlined in the page itself, so once it has loaded you can go offline and carry on making codes. The one outside request is the anonymous page-view ping, which the generator does not depend on.
